CASTLETON, Vt. – The University of Maine at Farmington men's lacrosse team fell to 2-3 in the North Atlantic Conference with a 14-0 NAC loss to Castleton State College this afternoon.
UMF, which stands at 4-4 overall on the season, is scheduled to visit Thomas College Wednesday at 4 p.m. Castleton remained unbeaten in the NAC (5-0), improving to 7-6 overall.
Alex Green (Braintree, Vt.) scored four goals and handed out one assist to lead Castleton.
Adam Groot (Canandaigua, N.Y.) scored three-straight goals to open the game, and Luke Titus (South Burlington, Vt.) netted his second of the season to give Castleton a 4-0 lead after one. Green scored three of his goals in the second period to help push the lead to 8-0 at halftime, and Castleton cruised the rest of the way.
Groot added an assist to his three goals, while Brian McCarthy (Johnson, Vt.) finished with a two-goal, one-assist performance. Jake Krantz (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) added a pair of goals, while Nohea King (St. Albans, Vt.) and Titus each finished with one goal and one assist.
Castleton controlled play throughout, outshooting the Beavers 79-16, while forcing 44 turnovers.
Farmington goalie Ben Altmaier (Farmington, Maine), who entered the game ranked first in the league in save percentage (.664) and goals against average (6.71), was phenomenal all game stopping 24 shots. Mike Foley (Byfield, Mass.) led the team with seven ground balls and six caused turnovers.
Dave DeGhetto (Clifton, N.J.) stopped all four shots that came his way in 36 minutes of action, and Tom Manley (Londonderry, N.H.) wrapped up the shutout with two saves in 24 minutes.
